Update on the 2020 Fall Season

Good afternoon,

I hope that you all are doing well and staying safe! I wanted to provide an update on the fall 2020 soccer season for both our rec league and our classic travel teams. As you all know, this year has been quite the challenge for everyone and sports certainly has been impacted by COVID as well.

As I had mentioned in my previous e-mail, we are required to follow guidelines from US Soccer, NC Youth Soccer Association (NCYSA), and the State of NC. At this time, no soccer club is allowed to play games. We are waiting on further information from Governor Cooper and his next steps with guidance for the state. NCYSA has connections to Governor Cooper and his office and are working along with other youth sports organizations to ask for direct guidance on youth sports at his next announcement which will happen the week ending 9/11. NCYSA would really like to have a fall season to give kids a chance to play and have some escape from what has been a very tough year for them.

With that being said, our stance is that if we are given the green light to play, we will play, but absolutely will follow the guidance we are given. This will most likely include having players (and spectators) wear masks as they come to and depart from the field (not during the games), temperature checks upon entrance to the field, limiting the number of attendees to the games, and staying home if they are not feeling 100% well.

Here is what I am asking from you all at this time for the Rec League. Decide if you intend to play this season. If you are going to play, I need you to register as soon as possible. There are a lot of logistics that have to happen for any season to take place, and forming teams, securing coaches, scheduling practices, game schedules, etc. takes time, so we can't wait until we have more information for everyone to register or that will make it very hard to pull off a season. If everyone registers now, we can be prepared so that if we are allowed to move forward, we will be ready to go. The only item left on the list would be uniforms, which I can get in less than two weeks. If we receive the go ahead by the 11th of September, we would aim to start practices directly after that and start our Rec season on Saturday, September the 26th and go through Saturday, November 14th, which still allows for us to play 8 weeks of soccer. Lastly, since I will not place uniform orders until we know we can play, there is no risk to you to sign up now, as if we are not allowed to play and we will not incur the uniform expense (which is a large expense), we will refund your money 100%.

For our Classic Teams, they will continue to train and prepare for the season. If you have not already registered, I need that to be done in the next couple of days as we will need to place a uniform order in order to be prepared for the season.

Also, I am still looking for help on the board. I need an Assistant Registrar that would be willing to take over as Registrar and a Vice President that would be willing to take over as President. Remember, this is an all volunteer run league and we can't do it without your help and support. If you have time and are willing to serve to help our youth, please reach out and I will be happy to discuss further with you.

Thanks for your patience, will be back in touch soon. If you have any questions, please let me know. We can be reached at [email protected]
